Tussentijdse klimaatconferentie van start in Bonn

BONN (ANP) Klimaatexperts en diplomaten zijn neergestreken in Bonn voor de jaarlijkse tussentijdse klimaatconferentie. De komende anderhalve week bespreken ze de voortschrijdende opwarming van de aarde en de maatregelen die nodig zijn om die te beperken. De bijeenkomst dient ter voorbereiding op de grote VN-klimaattop, die in november in de Turkse stad Antalya wordt gehouden. Volgens VN-klimaatchef Simon Stiell (foto) vervullen de jaarlijkse gesprekken in Bonn een "cruciale" rol om de agenda voor de zogeheten COP31 te bepalen en landen aan te zetten tot actie. "Ze komen op een kritiek moment: de impact van klimaatverandering wordt steeds ernstiger", schreef Stiell vooraf. Hij verwees ondermeer naar recente hittegolven.
