Rode Kruis haalt 690.000 euro op voor ebola-bestrijding Congo

DEN HAAG (ANP) Het Rode Kruis heeft 690.000 euro opgehaald via Giro 7244 voor de bestrijding van ebola in Oost-Congo. ,,Meer geld is hard nodig om beschermingsmiddelen zoals pakken, handschoenen en chloor aan te schaffen”, aldus Harm Goossens, directeur van het Nederlandse Rode Kruis, in een verklaring.

De ebola-uitbraak van de zeldzame bundibugyovariant werd op 15 mei afgekondigd in de Democratische Republiek Congo, maar het vermoeden is dat het virus zich al daarvoor onopgemerkt heeft verspreid. 

Er zijn geen vaccins. De Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) maakte woensdag bekend dat medici grip beginnen te krijgen op de uitbraak. Er zijn ongeveer vijfhonderd besmettingen vastgesteld.
