Harvard wil hervormen: studenten halen te hoge cijfers

CAMBRIDGE (ANP/AFP) De Amerikaanse universiteit Harvard heeft aangekondigd dat ze gaat beperken hoeveel cijfers in de hoogste categorie (A's) hoogleraren mogen toekennen aan bachelorstudenten. Hiermee zet de universiteit stappen om 'cijferinflatie' tegen te gaan. Cijferinflatie vormt een probleem binnen het gehele Amerikaanse hoger onderwijs, omdat een A - bedoeld als beloning voor uitmuntend werk - aan betekenis inboet wanneer de meeste studenten deze als vanzelfsprekend ontvangen. In het academisch jaar 2024-2025 bestond ongeveer twee derde van de cijfers die aan bachelorstudenten op Harvard werden uitgedeeld uit A's, blijkt uit het studentenhandboek.
