Zuid-Afrikaan Damon Galgut wint Britse Booker-literatuurprijs

LONDEN (ANP/RTR/AFP) De Zuid-Afrikaanse schrijver Damon Galgut (57) heeft dit jaar de belangrijke Britse Booker-literatuurprijs gewonnen voor zijn roman The Promise (De Belofte). Het boek gaat over een witte familie op een kleine boerderij in de buurt van Pretoria tijdens de apartheid (rassenscheiding) en de jaren daarna. De gezinsleden kampen met de belofte hun trouwe zwarte hulp een eigen huis te geven. Aan de Booker Prize voor Engelstalige literatuur is een geldbedrag van 50.000 pond verbonden, bijna 59.000 euro.
