Thiem kan titel US Open niet verdedigen

LICHTENWÖRTH (ANP) Tennisser Dominic Thiem zal zijn titel op de US Open niet verdedigen. De 27-jarige Oostenrijker heeft zich afgemeld omdat hij nog te veel last heeft van een polsblessure. Hij zegt ook de rest van het seizoen te moeten missen. "Ik ben heel teleurgesteld dat ik niet in staat ben om mijn titel te verdedigen op de US Open”, meldt de tennisser. Thiem won de vorig jaar in de finale van de Duitser Alexander Zverev.
