Belgische hockeyers veroveren olympisch goud

TOKIO (ANP) België heeft het olympisch hockeytoernooi gewonnen. De regerend wereldkampioen rekende in de finale af met Australië. Na een gelijke stand na reguliere speeltijd (1-1) namen de Belgen de shoot-outs beter. Florent van Aubel opende de score voor België. Tom Wickham maakte gelijk 1-1. Blake Govers, Joshua Simmonds en Jacob Whetton slaagden er in de shoot-outs niet in om de Belgische doelman Vincent Vanasch te passeren. Félix Denayer was de enige Belg die miste. België verloor vijf jaar geleden de olympische finale van Argentinië (2-4). Australië werd in 2004 voor de eerste en voorlopig laatste keer olympisch kampioen. Australië schakelde in de kwartfinale Nederland uit na shoot-outs.
